Boys Summary

St. Amant won their second tournament in as many tries, only this time they were pushed by East Ascension.  The Gators scored 141 points to the Spartans' 136, with third-place walker 26 behind the Spartans with 110 points.  East Ascension had the finalists to win the event, but two of their four lost their finals matches, while only one Gator finalist lost.  The schools might have tied one another, except for a little thing found in the statistics of the tournament.  The Gators had 20 pins, worth one point apiece.  The Spartans only had fifteen pins.  That five points was the difference.

Boys Outstanding Wrestler

Carencro's Cody Hypolite was voted the Boys Division Outstanding Wrestler.

Hypolite had to win a pigtail match just to get into the 16-man bracket.  He did that via a 19-3 technical fall.  He would win his next match by a 20-8 major decision, a fall in 0:59, a 14-10 semifinals decision and a 15-12 finals decision.

Hypolyte's record improved to 12-2 in winning his second tournament of the season (Brusly 8ish).

Finals Matches

106 Pounds
Lee Gervais (HC) defeated Stephen Rene (EA) 16-3 MD
This was a repeat of the Griffin Open finals and the fourth   time these two have met on the season.  Rene won the first match 6-4 at the Warrior Open.  Gervais returned the compliment with a 6-4 win at the Walker Invitational, but then seemed to have gotten Rene's "number."  The Tiger won their next matches via a 14-2 MD at the Griffin and in the Spartan finals, a  16-3 MD.  Gervais is now 15-3.  Rene has two other losses besides the one to Gervais.  One was a 6-5 loss to Zachary's Landon Blackwell, which Rene avenged 12-6 in the Spartan semifinals.  Another was to NOMMA's Yami Hea in the Walker Invitation, although Rene beat Hea earlier at the Warrior, 2-1.  Against those five losses to three opponents, Rene has won matches against all of them.  He has won 14 other matches, so his 17-5 record is better than it looks.

113 Pounds
Cody Hypolite (CAR) defeated Ian Keller (EA) 15-12 MD
The Carencro sophomore has a record of 12-2 including two tough wins against Dutchtown's Aiden Thai and East Ascension's Ian Keller.  He won the Brusly 8ish and placed fourth at the Cougar Clash coming into this event.  Keller is 15-3, and has avenged a Warrior Open finals loss to NOMMA's Edan Nguyen in the Walker Invitational finals.  His other two losses were to Thai and Hypolite.  He defeated Sulphur's Ty Bowser, who is one of Hypolite's losses.  This weight class so far has not produced a real favorite, albeit the Catholic schools have yet to make their presence known.

120 Pounds
Zane Blanchard (SS) defeated Kale Muscarello (SHW) 9-1 MD
Defending Division II state champion Muscarello gave Blanchard, the defending Division I state champion, his toughest match of the year, save Blanchard's loss to Teurlings Catholic's Alex Rozas.  Blanchard has pinned or teched all of his other opponents to post a 11-1 record.  Prior to the Spartan Classic Blanchard won the Warrior Open and placed second in the Cougar Clash.  Blanchard is Muscarello's only blemish as the Eagle sophomore won his first 10 matches.  Muscarello easily won the Walker Invitational and the Bulldog Brawl.

126 Pounds
Mason Parria (HC) defeated Dustin Smith (FNT) 10-3
This was Mason Parria's first event of the season, and he won it fairly easily with falls in 1:48, 1:27 and 1:20, and a 10-3 decision in the finals.  Smith is 19-6, including a win at the Bulldog Brawl and a second-place finish at the Walker Invitational and a third-place showing at the Warrior Open.  His losses, however, came to the likes of Jesuit's Michael Barnett (a 3x Division I runner-up), Rummel's Landon Modica (7-3), Rozas, Liam Ritchie of St. Paul (14-0), Catholic's defending Division I state champion Caleb Kirk and Parria.

132 Pounds
Brayden Sellers (FNT) defeated Ronan Snider (SHW) 15-0 TF
Braden Sellers is 23-1, with his sole loss coming from Jesuit's 2025 Division I runner-up Max Belsome.  He adds the Spartan Classic victory to wins at the Walker Invitational and the Bulldog Brawl.  He has wins over Brother Martin's Matthew Graffagnini, Rummel's Josh Guhman and now, Snider.  Snider In varsity matches Snider is 6-2, losing both of his matches in tournament finals to Sellers.

138 Pounds
Alex Amedee (EA) Eli Roberts (ZAC) 21-6 TF
After an 8-2 start, ending with a one-point loss 8-7, the senior Amedee has run off 10 straight wins, including titles at the Griffin Open and the Spartan.  Upon entering the Spartan Classic, Eli Roberts had two Louisiana losses.  Those came from Acadiana's Ozias Gray and Brother Martin's Quinn McDermott - no slouches there.  And those both came at the Warrior Open.  In the Spartan Roberts pinned two opponents and teched one prior to meeting Amedee.

145 Pounds
Ozias Gray (ACA) pinned Alex Cook (HNV) in 1:51
In 53 matches in the 2024-25 season, Ozias Gray lost one match.  That was a 9-6 decision against the two-time defending Division I state champion Bodi Harris of Jesuit.  It is no surprise that he in now 19-0 and has won the four tournaments he has entered.  Alex Cook of Hahnville was 11-0 prior to facing Gray in the Spartan Classic finals.  It is only November.  If your only loss in 12 matches is to Gray, you had a pretty good November, particularly when winning and being voted the Outstanding Wrestler at the Bulldog Brawl.  Beating a Division III 2025 runner-up and Holy Cross' Michael Klein, who placed third in Division I in 2025, add luster to that months record.

150 Pounds
Dylan Ricks (BRU) defeated Ian David (ACA) 7-2
Brusly senior Dylan Ricks is 19-0 against Louisiana competition.  The Spartan Classic is the third tournament he has won in November.  He beat no slouch in Acadian's Ian David, who won the Cougar Clash and placed second in the Walker Invitational.  David lost to St. Thomas More's James Treadway, but avenged that loss in the finals of the Cougar Clash.  David is 12-4 on the season.

157 Pounds
Thomas Abington (StA) pinned David Gonzales (CHL) in 1:10
Last season Thomas Abington was 9-7 at the end of November.  Someone must be putting something in the water at St. Amant, as Abington, at the end of November in 2025, is 13-0.  Eleven wins were via falls and two were technical falls.  Prior to the Spartan Classic he won the Griffin Open.  Gonzales, whose older brother Leo was a Division I finalist in 2025, won his first 12 matches before running into Abington.  He also won the Reservation Rumble and the Bulldog Brawl.

165 Pounds
Braylon Stewart (EA) pinned Mason Asevado (StA) in 2:00
In the 2024-25 season Braylon Stewart lost two matches to Brandt Babineaux of Teurlings Catholic, who went 39-0 in that season.  So it is not surprising that Stewart is 14-0 with wins at the Warrior Open, the Griffin Open and now the Spartan Classic.  Mason Asevado is 12-3 with his losses coming from Catholic's two-time defending Division I champion Kristian Scott and Stewart (twice).  He placed third at the Griffin Open.  December 6th should be interesting.  That is when the Catholic Duals take place, and we may see a match between Stewart and Scott.

175 Pounds
Joshua Caronna (StA) defeated Greyson Bernard (LAF) 15-6 MD
St. Amant's Joshua Caronna had a respectable 7-3 record, but it went to 11-3 after the Spartan, reflecting an 8-0 streak since his last loss on November 22nd, which included a third-place finish at the Griffin Open.  Lafayette's Greyson Bernard also had three losses prior to the Spartan Classic finals, against 17 wins..  He placed third at the Griffin Open and second at the Brusly 8ish.

190 Pounds
Landon Olds (ACA) pinned Tyrie Butler (ZAC) in 3:32
Acadiana's Landon Olds won the Walker Invitation and was a runner-up at the Griffin Open.  He is 12-1 after winning the Spartan.  Tyrie Butler of Zachary had only a 5-3 record entering the Spartan Classic, and is 8-4 after his runner-up finish.

215 Pounds
Billy Edmonson (LO) pinned Josiah Stewart (DUT) in 1:32
Live Oak's Billy Edmonston has made mincemeat of his competition in his 8-0 November start to the 2025-26 season.  He has three falls, four technical falls and one major decision to his credit.  He also has titles from the Spartan Classic and the Griffin Open, where he was voted the Outstanding Wrestler.  He proved too much for too much for Dutchtown junior Josiah Stewart in the Spartan finals, just as he did to Stewart in the Griffin Open finals.  Other than in his two matches against Edmonston, Stewart is 8-0 with a win at the Warrior Open.

285 Pounds
Chris Godso (WLK) defeated Aiden Anderson (BR) 4-1
Chris Godso, III has a record of 15-0 with wins at the Walker Invitational (plus the OW award), Griffin Open and now the Spartan Classic.  He has 12 falls, and three close calls of 2-1, 4-3 and 4-1.  But that is not uncommon in the 285 lbs. matches.  If a pin is not going to happen, those matches generally go to the wrestler who makes the least mistakes.  Anderson is 7-2, and is a part of two of those close decisions.
