Brusly's Trevor Scherman pins Columbia's Austin Chapmann with a cradle in the first 145 pound semifinal . Austin Breindel of Clay grabs a single-leg on South Walton's Cody Pickren in the second 145 pound semifinal.

Finalists: Trevor Schermer (Brusly) vs. Austin Breindel (Clay)

Possibly the most anticipated match of the evening was the finals at 145 pounds.  Brusly's three-time defending state champion Trevor Schermer was pitted again last season's third place Florida 1A finisher, Adam Breindel of Clay High School.  Both wrestlers were undefeated in their pool matches on Friday.  Breindel got past a determined Cody Pickren of South Walton in the semifinals while Schermer had an easier time with Columbia's Austin Chapmann.

The match started off in Schermer's favor.  From his cat-like stance Schermer scored the first takedown in seven seconds via a duck-under.  But then things got tough for the Panther wrestler.  Breindel reversed Schermer with 30 seconds remaining in the first period.  Starting on bottom in the second period, Schermer could not get away from Breindel.  Despite successfully standing up, grabbing a leg and basically upending the Clay wrestler, Breindel simply would not yield control.  Near the end of the second period Breindel scored two nearfall points and led going into the third round 4-2.  In that period Breindel started on bottom and scored a reversal to take a 6-2 lead.  During the process Breindel took Schermer to the mat with authority (not hard enough to merit a penalty, but hard nonetheless) and Schermer did not recover.  Breindel added a couple of more nearfall points and won the match 8-2.
