Weight Class Synopsis
Basile's Alex Menier joined the ranks of Gavin Christ, Carmen Cortez and the
late Jimmy Vidrine as four-time state champion Bearcat wrestlers. Gavin
Christ last accomplished the feat in 2019.
Menier dominated Hannan senior and second-seeded Cade Hontiveros via a 14-4
major decision in the finals. In 2020 Menier defeated Kaul Kayser of
Brusly, who won this years 120 lbs. weight class, 3-2. As a sophomore he
pinned Lakeside's Taurio Grigsby in 5:02 to claim his second title. His
first came at 106 lbs. in 2018 when he defeated St. Louis senior Cameron
Witherwax, who beat Menier five times during the regular season, 9-4.
Menier's hardest task was a 6-2 win over fourth-seeded Liam O'Connor of De la
Salle in the semifinals. O'Connor, with a record of 15-9, including losses
to Hontiveros and King, would not lose again. He placed third via a 3-2
decision over John Curtis' Sean King. King entered the event with a 12-7
record, with one of the 12 wins a 6-4 win over O'Connor for third place at the
Brusly Invitational. He also defeated Wilkinson in the quarterfinals, but
could not take their third match. The results of the match for 5th and 6th
reversed the seeding also. Dorian Wilkerson of St. Michael, with a 14-7
record which placed him in the sixth spot, defeated fifth-seeded Moses
Thomas (6-1) of Bossier via a 16-0 technical fall.

Finals
| Top-seeded Alex Menier of Basile won his fourth consecutive
Division III championship with a 12-4 major decision over
second-seeded Cade Hontiveros of Hannan |
| |
|
Menier held nothing back in this match.
He outscored Hontiveros 4-1 (two takedowns vs. one
escape) in the first period and 5-0 in the second period (an
escape, takedown and three nearfall points).
Hontiveros' best period was the third, in which after
choosing to start standing Menier scored a takedown, but
Hontiveros managed an escape and a takedown of his own.
Menier did not want to end his career anywhere but on
top, though, and he scored a reversal with 12 seconds remaining
to do just that.
