Weight Class Synopsis
Nawab Singh had a stellar 25-1 record against Louisiana opponents with his
only loss coming two days before the Louisiana Classic to Blain Cascio of St.
Paul. (Anyone who can get over 20 matches this year is having an excellent
season, though.) With Cascio dropping to 182 lbs. Singh was the top seed at
this event. Defending Division II state champion Dylan Oliver, seeded
second, had a 13-1
record but 10 of the wins, as well as the loss, were to out-of-state
competition. Seeded third was Sulphur's Corey Hyatt who was a mere 3-0 but
that included a Jacob McMillan championship.
Singh use a bye and three pins to reach the finals. Olivier looked good
with two first-round falls and a major decision en route to the semifinals, but
Hyatt, after first-round pin and an 8-1 decision, made the semifinals different.
Hyatt scored first and never trailed in a 7-4 win.
State Implications
Division I: Hyatt, who now is 7-0, will be the top seed followed by Singh and
then maybe Josh Sabadie of St. Paul, although Sabadie is only 3-0.
Parkway's Jaden Jones, who is 7-3, has lost to Hyatt twice and Teurlings
Catholic's Eric Levert, who placed fourth in the Louisiana Classic. Jones
has a DQ loss which knocked him out of the placing matches, but he should be the
third seed, followed then perhaps by Sabadie. Zachary's Cameron Walker is
6-2, with his losses coming from Summerfield's Trace Morrow and to Olivier in
the consolation semifinals. However, he was DQ's in his match for fifth
place and then might put Gavyn O'Connor in the #4 spot.
Division II: Olivier will be the one to beat again, followed by Levert, whom
Olivier pined in 2:33 to place 3rd. Barring a major mistake by one of
those two, the remainder of this weight class will be vying for third.
Division III: Summerfield's Trace Morrow will be seeded first, with Jason
Krail of De la Salle second. They both advanced to the 4th consolation
round at this event, but Morrow (17-7) has two wins over Krail (17-9).
Brusly senior Aaron Couty should be seeded third due to a loss to Krail.
