Unknown until now, 10 of Rob Oubre's Assassins intermingled with the other wrestlers on the mats at the Deep South K-8 Nationals Duals at the end of July.  On the first day the Assassins placed fourth in Pool D, enabling themselves a spot in Saturday's Silver Championship bracket.  They two hard first matches with the Teknique Black (Georgia) team (69-22 loss) and the Whitted Trained (Texas) team (61-33 loss).  The match against Missouri Wrestling is probably something on which they would rather not dwell, but they ended the day on a high note, beating Tennessee's Blackcats 72-18.

On Saturday, the Assassins won their first three matches.  They defeated the Texas Praetorian team 67-24 in the first round.  In the second round they just got past Tennessee's Bucs Wrestling Club 47-46.  Down 32-18 the Assassins won the next six matches in-a-row to take a 46-32 lead.  The Bucs won the next two matches by falls, making the score 46-44 in favor of the Assassins.  But there were some misconduct points to award.  The Bucs gained two to tie the score at 46, but the Assassins got one, giving them the one-point win.  It was as tight a match as one could ask as each team won nine matches.  What really won the match for the Assassins was that they scored six falls to only five for the Bucs.  Next up was Alabama's Oak Grove, whom the Assassins handled 58-30.  Their finals match was against Georgia's Level Up team.  Two pins, two decisions and two forfeits were not enough to rattle the Georgia team, who won 64-30.

All of the wrestlers should be proud of their efforts, and all got better in one way or another. Some great records are, however, worth mentioning: Anthony Oubre went 6-2 on the weekend.  Gunner Guidry was 5-3 and Christian Wright was 4-3.
