Spartan Classic

The Spartan Classic was held on November 26th at the Lamar-Dixon EXPO Center in Gonzales in gymnasiums that did not exist the last time this writer ventured to an EXPO Center event.  Once again East Ascension holds the toughest November tournament, albeit only one of the powerhouse Catholic teams, Holy Cross, was entered.

Girls

The Lafayette Lady Lions repeated their performance of November 22nd at Dutchtown by winning the Spartan Classic.  The Lady Lions outscored runner-up East Ascension 121 to 96.  Chalmette was third with 90.5 points, followed by Baton Rouge and Walker, both with 79 points.

Boys

Despite not having the services of Kent Pearson, whom everybody wishes a sound recovery from medical issues from which he is recovering, the St. Amant Gators won their second tournament in four days.  The Gators fought off a tough challenge from East Ascension, outscoring the host Spartans 141 to 136.  Walker finished third (110), followed by Dutchtown (96.5) and Fontainebleau (94.5).

Brother Martin 45-St. Paul 28

The Crusaders won eight of the 13 matches against the Wolves on Tuesday, November 25th, at the St. Paul gymnasium.  The Wolves won three of the first four weight classes with two falls and a technical fall, but then the Crusaders won six "on the spin" (who watches darts on You Tube?) and accepted a forfeit to take an insurmountable lead.  St. Paul won two of the last three matches.
