Erath's Ryan Fobbs lost two matches all season. One was to Kaplan's
Ethan Vigneaux at the Jacob McMillan. He avenged the Vigneaux match
in the Louisiana Public Schools Championships. His other loss was to
Gabriel Millbern in the Ken Cole finals. Yet he had defeated Millbern
before that match in the Public Schools Championships. He also won the
Louisiana Classic over Catholic senior David Russell. Nobody in the state
can say they got the better of him, as in winning two of three matches.
Shaw junior Raymond Howard lost just one match, to Teurlings Catholic's Kole
Hayes. He won the Tiger Clash at Hahnville and his one loss to Hayes, and
that tournament win, gave him a top-seed over a LACL champion and a Ken Cole
finalist? It just does not make sense that Fobbs was seeded second rather
than first.
In the finals nobody scored in the first period. In the second period
Fobbs scored an escape to lead 1-0. In the third period, with Fobbs
starting on top, Howard was awarded a penalty point, but Fobbs was able to turn
Howard over and pin him in 5:09.
