North Desoto freshman Dalton Compton only had two Louisiana problems during
the year. Brother Martin senior Ty Duncan beat him 11-3 MD in the first
round of the Cinco Ranch Big 12. Duncan beat Compton again in the
consolation semifinals, but this time the score was only 4-0. Compton got
better, and Duncan might have been served well not to face the Griffin a third
time.

His other losses came from Teurlings Catholic's Brandt Babineaux. The
Rebel defeated Compton in the quarterfinals of the Louisiana Classic 3-1.
Compton placed third and Babineaux second. In the Ken Cole finals a
week later Babineaux defeated Compton 5-3 SV. Babineaux's only losses came
from Brother Martin's undefeated senior Kent Burandt, and both Babineaux and
Compton defeated De la Salle's Liam O'Connor. Babineaux was obviously the
first seed, but Compton was relegated to the third spot in favor of Sam
Houston's Caleb Lavine. Lavine had not wrestled a match since
mid-November, though, and expecting a finals appearance might have been asking a
little much of the Bronco sophomore. Compton evidently thought so as he
pinned Lavine in the first period of the semifinals. Lavine parlayed his
entrance into a third-place finish, but Compton got another shot at Babineaux.
The third match went down to the wire also as after six minutes the two were
tied 1-1. This time, though, it was Compton who scored the winning
takedown seven seconds into the Sudden Victory round.
