In the 2022 Division II
finals at 106 lbs. Rummel freshman Kaiden Triche lost to Teurlings Catholic's
Brennan Romero 10-5. Triche had won their prior meeting, so this loss was
unexpected. That did not happen this season. Triche had losses, but
to very good opponents. Romero beat him again in a late November dual meet
8-7, but that was at 120 lbs. Alex Rozas of TC defeated Triche in the
Brusly Division II. That was at 113 lbs., and was probably a match in
which Rozas might test himself. At 113 lbs. Triche fell to Bodi Harris,
who later became a Division I state champion, in the Louisiana Classic finals.
Holy Cross' Vincent Vidacovich best Triche in a late January match, but that did
not matter much as Triche was contemplating Division II seeding and matches.
During the season Triche should have won the Gulf Coast Clash but was
unexpectedly disqualified in the finals match. He did win the Tiger
Invitational, the Trygg Memorial and the Ryan Blackwell Invitational in Florida.
He placed second to a Texas wrestler at the Ken Cole. Prior to the state
championships he defeated defending Division III state champion Dylan Duvernay
of De la Salle twice, Trey Trainor of Brother Martin (D1 6th) twice, Southside's
Kael Reaux and Grant Grizzaffi of Catholic (D1 2nd).
Triche's opponent was second-seeded Teurlings Catholic sophomore Daniel
Daspit. Daspit won the Brusly Invitation, the Riot on the Red and the
Lafayette Metro. He placed third at the Jacob McMillan and fourth at the
Gulf Coast Clash and the Tiger Invitational. Unfortunately, he lost two
matches to Triche. One was a fall in Daspit's first imatch of the season
and then and another in the Ken Cole via a 10-2 MD.
In the finals, Triche replayed the first match scenario, only faster, as he
recorded a fall in 1:07.
