March 26th

Teurlings Catholic freshman Alex Rozas took fifth-place All-American honors at the NSCA Virginia Beach Nationals on Sunday.  Rozas defeated two-tike Colorado 3A state champion 7- the garner 5th-place honors.

Junior Tyson Roach (at 113 lbs.) and sophomore Kelby Bernard (at 120 lbs.) did not win their matches for fifth-place.  Roach lost 5-4 to Daniel O'Blia of Colorado and Kelby Bernard fell to James Worthley 9-3.  Roach and Kelby each earned All-American honors for the sixth-place finishes.

Wrestlers hailing from Colorado, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Texas and Utah will battle for three of the 83 fifth-place medals to be awarded Sunday at the NHSCA Virginia Beach Nationals.

Yandel Morales of Andover is a Massachusetts Division I state champion.  Not much is available on TrackWrestling about Massachusetts.  One can bet they have more than 39 wrestlers and six teams, though.  Morales will face Teurlings Catholic's 2023 Division II state champion Alex Rozas.  Rozas was 45-0 during the high school season, and that "0" is something Morales cannot claim in his 2022-23 season.   In his firth match of this event Morales pinned Brother Martin's Anthony Oubre in 1:48.  Rozas has pinned, as well as teching him twice.  (No offense, Master Anthony!)

Jason Worthley, a 2023 Utah 6A runner-up, will face Allen, Texas sophomore and 2023 UIL 6A state champion Kelby Bernard.  Worthley lost to Tennessee's Ethan Uhorchuk in the quarterfinals 3-1.  Bernard lost to Uhorchuk 6-2 in the consolation finals.  This may be very close.

Colorado's Dale O'Blia is a two-time Colorado 3A state champion.  Colorado had four state wrestling championship divisions.  Tyson Roach has won state championships in Divisions I & II in Louisiana.  They both fell to finalist Jermaine Peace of South Carolina in the championship round and will face off against one another for fifth-place.
