Holy Cross sophomore and defending LACL champion Nicholas DiGeralamo was seeded
second because he did not have an opportunity to avenge the one loss to a
Louisiana wrestler on his record. East Ascension's Jacobi Clement was able
to avenge his one loss and thus technically earned the top spot re seeding.
Oddly enough, the wrestler DiGeralamo lost to in the finals of his first event
of the season, Aiden Lindsey of Fontainebleau, knocked Clementi out of the 2022 LACL
before making the medal rounds. A couple of hours later
DiGeralamo was winning the 2022 title as a freshman.
After their resounding win at the Public-Schools Wrestling Championships the
LACL was not kind to East Ascension, and it showed in the quarterfinals when
eighth-seeded Rory Horvath upset Clement in 4:22. Horvath then defeated
unseeded Lake Bates of North Desoto 8-3. Bates knocked off #4 Miles
Edwards of Mandeville in Round One via a disqualification. Bates, though, was
winning 6-2 in the second period prior to the DQ.
DiGeralamo cruised easily into the semifinals via a 20-9 MD, a fall in 0:24
and a 17-4 MD. He defeated Jesuit's Arthur Schott 5-2 in the semifinals
via a 3-0 third period. That was a close match, but he had survived two
other close matches with Schott prior to that one. The Tiger sophomore had
also gotten past Horvath twice before, both by major decisions. This one
was no different as DiGeralamo only allowed Horvath to score three escape points
in an 11-3 MD. DiGeralamo was now halfway through the process of joining
Airline's Matt
Rabinowitz, Korey Miller of St. Paul, Ernie Perry, III and possibly Richie Clementi as
four-time LACL champions.
