In the 2021-22 season Brother Martin's Kent Burandt routinely let opponents score way too many points against him.  Most of the time he was able to win the matches via scoring more points than or pinning the other wrestler.  This season, he appeared to have learned that it was a lot easier in the "grand scheme of things" not to be scored upon so much.  He held his opponents scoreless in the Cinco Ranch Big 12 and the Saints Invitation tournaments, and aside from a loss in Texas in his first match of the season, only three points were scored on him at a dual meet against Hoover, AL, prior to the Trey Culotta Invitational.

At the Trey Culotta Invitational the "grand scheme" took a hit.  Burandt allowed 25 points to be scored against him.  He won his third-place match 12-7, but that was after an 18-17 loss semifinals loss.  That did not seem to sit too well with the three-time Division I finalist.  After the Trey Culotta only one wrestler scored on Burandt.  That was TC's Brandt Babineaux, whom Burandt defeated 5-4 in a dual meet.  Another lesson was learned after that match, and it was one that would propel Burandt into and successfully through the LACL finals.  Just do not let the other kids score at all.

It worked in his first two matches, which consisted of two takedowns and then falls in 0:25 and 1:35.  In the quarters he scored a 15-0 TF.  In the semifinals, where Burandt had been twice before in 2020 and 2022, it looked like the Crusader senior might fail to reach the finals again when he gave-up a takedown after 30 seconds.  Less than 10 seconds later he had either escaped from or reversed Zachary's Chase Rose and tacked on two nearfall points to end the period.  Forty-five seconds into the second round Burandt recorded a fall.

Lesson learned again, Burandt shut out Babineaux 5-0 in the finals.
