used when it starts getting difficult to use "Boudreaux."]
TC's Ethan Boudreaux had two demons remaining from the
2021-22 season. One was Southside's
Wiley Boudreaux, who defeated the Rebel junior twice last season.
The other was winning the LACL finals.
Ethan made the finals twice.
In 2021 he fell to soon-to-be two-time Division I state champion Ernie
Perry of Airline. In 2022 he
fell to soon-to-be Division I state champion Mason Elsensohn of Brother Martin.
There were no Division I state champions in the 138 lbs. 2023 LACL field.
However, there were three Division I runners-up, and a few Division II
ones as well. The only state
champion happened to be a Division III wrestler - none other than Wiley, who won
a title for Erath in 2021.
Of the three 2022 Division I runners-up in the bracket, the
Rebel senior took care of one, Brother Martin's Ty Duncan, 11-5 in the
semifinals. Then Wiley took care of
another, Conlan Enk of St. Paul, via a close match in which Enk led until Wiley
put him on his back.
Only one Boudreaux could go home with a title, though, and
it was the Rebel one who kept his undefeated season intact with a 15-9 win over
the Shark.
Ethan exorcised both demons at the same time.
