Senior Spartan Jacob Schexnaydre was 27-1 entering this match with his only
loss coming from, as it did last season, to Catholic's Thomas Domangue.
Last season the score was 17-4 MD, and Domangue was not a defending Division I
state champion. This season, when Domangue was a Division I defending
state champion, the score was only 7-2. In 2021, on November 10th, in his
second match, a week after his loss to Domangue, Schexnaydre lost to Baton
Rouge's Adam Landry 5-3. Almost two months later Schexnaydre avenged that
match via a fall over Landry in 5:57. This season, in the finals of the
Big Horse on December 10th, Schexnaydre defeated Landry 7-5.
Two-and-a-half weeks later Schexnaydre pinned Landry in 3:55 to win his sixth
tournament of the year (2022).
North Vermillion senior Garrett Billeaud, who pushed Landry well into the
third period in the semifinals, took third-place with a fall over unseeded Drew
Schafer of Chalmette. Chalmette made the consolation finals via a CSF win
over #6 Adam Glendening of Mandeville. Glendening placed sixth after
falling to #4 Derrick Bennett of Chalmette.
