The 126 lbs. weight class was not lacking in talent.  Aside from Airline's three-time Division I state champion Ernie Perry, III, of Airline, it included fourth-place winners Kobe Nguyen of Division II Shaw and William Simpson and Jace Wagoner of Division III (for St. Michael and De la Salle, respectively).  Oddly, it was Sam Houston's Pollex Coleman, who placed T-11th in Division I in 2022 (including a quarterfinals loss to Perry in 0:40), who earned the shot at Perry in the finals, with wins over Nguyen and Acadiana's Cayden Richard.  Richard, who also place T-11th in 2022, after losses to Karcher and the 132 lbs. Warrior champion Luke Maneckshaw of East Ascension, placed third via a fall over Dutchtown's Champ Hutchinson.

First Round

Yes, there are more photos of the Kobe Nguyen vs. Django Hunter match than there are of the finals match.  This is due to the editor meeting Mr. Hunter's mother at Waffle House earlier in the morning and promising to make sure he took some photos of her son.  In photo #8,  it could be inferred that she made sure he did so (albeit she might be looking at her son).
