Louisiana teams ahead after the first day of Border Wars VI
December 7th, 2018 | Written by: Editor

Five Louisiana-based teams traveled to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, for the sixth South Walton Border Wars.  After Friday's pool rounds, four of those teams were in the top-six of the 20 teams there.

Holy Cross, the 2017 and 2018 champions, are in the lead with 196 points.  St. Paul's is right behind them with 187 points.  And the Tigers and the Wolves appear to be breaking away from the pack.  Two strong Florida teams, Palmetto Ridge with 158 points, and Wakulla with 149.5 points, are currently in the third and fourth positions.  Jesuit is in fifth-place with 132 points, followed by Live Oak with 129.5.  The East Ascension Spartans earned 99.5 points and are currently 11th.

This coverage is, naturally, biased toward the Louisiana teams participating.  The Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and Florian teams will be represented by the semifinals and finals photographs to be published at a later date.

Louisiana wrestlers earned 24 of the 56 spots in Saturday's 4-man championship brackets:

As expected, South Walton's Ethan Pickren (left), no stranger to Louisiana wrestling events, will be vying for the 138-pounds title.  Pickren won this event as a freshman in 2015 (right).
