Breast Cancer

Wrestling often turns young men and women into leaders.  Winning state championships does not leave one much of a choice but to lead.  Hence, at the request of son Trent Mahoney, the 2018 Division I 132 lbs. state champion, Coach Patrick Mahoney of East Ascension decided to make the Tuesday, October 30th, dual meet with Catholic into a breast cancer fundraiser, in honor of October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The proceeds of the fundraiser will be donated to the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Gonzales, one of seven Mary Bird Perkins center in Louisiana.

Aside from the younger Mahoney (a junior this year), 2018 Division I state champion Luke Romano of Catholic should compete.  Each team will have seven other members, including two state placers each, who participated in the 2018 state championships.  The Spartans'  Kyle Chatman and Devon Clark placed third.  The Bears' Hunter Goodson and Peter Kelly placed fifth.

The match is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. at the East Ascension Gymnasium on East Worthy Road in Gonzales.
