Weight Class Synopsis

This marked the second meeting between East Ascension sophomore Brad Mahoney and Live Oak sophomore Anthony Dodson.  Mahoney was 16-0 entering the Spartan, with one of those wins a 10-8 decision over Dodson in the semifinals of the Warrior Open.  That was Dodson's first loss of the season.  (He lost one other match prior to the Spartan by a fall to Catholic's Toby Richard who, 11 days after the Spartan, would defeat Mahoney 9-7.)  Perhaps a precursor akin to the Hill-Brownell rivalry, it was Dodson who flustered Mahoney in this meeting, earning a 19-9 major decision.  The two could very well meet a couple of times again this season, and like Hill and Brownell, will rest a little easier knowing they will be in different division at the state championships.
