Weight Class Synopsis

Juniors Clayton Hill of Live Oak and Corey Brownell were the obvious top two seeds at 120 pounds.  Hill was 14-2, with one loss to Brownell in the finals of the Warrior Open, and one to two-time Division III state champion Alex Yokubaitus of St. Lewis.  Brownell was 11-1, with his sole loss coming from Hill in the finals of the Brusly 8.  A great tie-breaking match was expected, and the two finalists did not disappoint anyone.  Hill prevailed 3-0, and thus took an early step toward the top-seed spot in the Greater Baton Rouge Championships.  But the two should meet again soon.  Both are scheduled to participate in the Zachary Big Horse, and then three days later in a dual meet at Live Oak.  St. Amant and Live Oak are expected to participate in the Trey Culotta at Brother Martin.  That means three potential matches between the two in December alone.  January may see three matches between the two in the Ken Cole, the Louisiana Classic and the GBRs.  Although both are juniors, next year may not see them paired if family genetics are consistent.  Hill's older Brother Cody won his third Division II state championship at 126 pounds in 2014.  Brownell's older brother Clint ended his high school career as a Division I runner-up at 152 pounds in 2016.
