Fifty-three Louisiana wrestlers entered the National High School Coaches Association Nationals, held in Virginia Beach, VA, this weekend.  Two eighth-graders, two sophomores and a senior won All-American honors.

Jacob Frost, a Holy Cross 8th-grader who was the LHSAA Division I runner-up last February, placed fifth in the Middle School 95 lbs. weight class.  Frost, who won his 5th-place match with a 4-2 win over New York's Anthony Conetta, was the highest placer of all of the Louisiana wrestlers.  Frost was ahead 3-0 going into the third period, in which Conetta scored a reversal to cut Frost's lead to one point.  On a restart, Conetta let Frost escape to make the score 4-2 in Frost's favor, but he could not manage a takedown to tie Frost and possibly go to a Sudden Victory round.

Twin brother Evan, competing in the 90 lbs. weight class, placed seventh via an extraordinary match against Evan Camire of Pennsylvania.  The match was scoreless entering the third period.  Camire scored a takedown for a 2-0 lead and rode Frost well.  With time running out Frost scored an escape, and with four seconds remaining Frost scored a takedown on the edge of the mat for a 3-2 victory.

While not placing in the event, Lafayette Scrapper Ashton Sonnier also made the trip and competed.

At the high school level, Camdyn Ingram of Live Oak and Alex Yokubaitis of St. Louis placed seventh.  Ingram was guaranteed his place on Saturday due to a forfeit by his opponent.  Yokubaitis had to wrestler for his seventh place honors, and won a 4-2 match over Jake Eckerle of New York.  Airline senior Matt Salinas fell to Minnesota's Bobby Striggow and placed eighth.
