It is a good thing the LHSAA Wrestling State Championships are not in Grotzis, Austria.  That is 5,414 miles from Baton Rouge, and even northwestern Louisianans might gripe about that trip.

St. Michael 182 lbs. Division II, Ken Cole and Louisiana Classic champion Dane Harter did not mind the trip, though, as he was a member of the U.S. Junior National Greco-Roman team.  He and his teammates ventured "across the pond" for the Austria Junior Open on March 3rd.  With Harter were his Greco-Roman coach John Kent (formerly of Rummel High School), Coach Rob Herman of Northern Michigan University and Coach Momir Petrovich of the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Dane competed at 82 kilograms (180.7 lbs.).  While he lost his two matches 10-1 and 4-2, the experience at an international event is priceless. As his father, St. Michael coach Mark Harter said, "He has become friends with the Greco-Roman team as well as some wrestlers from Germany and Austria.  Dane was very honored to be invited and had an incredible experience."
