On Saturday, former Destrehan High School and current Emmanuel College wrestler Abby Nette won the 2018 USAW/USMC Girls FK and U23 Women's Nationals on Saturday at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, OK.  Nette's win qualifies her for the U.S. World Team, which will compete in the World Championships in November in Bucharest, Romania.  This will be Nette's first international event.

An interview with Nette after the finals matches may be found on YouTube.

Wrestling for Emmanuel's Lions Blood Wrestling Club (LBWC) in the 59 kgs. weight class, Nette received a first round bye, won her quarterfinals match 7-2 and her semifinals match 7-4.  Nette faced Allison Petix of King University of Bristol, Tennessee, in a best-two-out-of-three finals event.  Nette won the first match 8-7, but dropped the second one 5-3.  In the third and final match, Nette took the title with a 6-2 victory.

Other LBWC All-Americans were third-place winners Hannah Gladden and Kayla Marano, fourth-place winner Marriza Barrueta and fifth-place winner Ophelia Lara.

Also pictured below is Cody Mae Pfau, who won the 50 kgs. weight class.  Cody is sponsored by the Titan-Mercury Wrestling Club of San Marino, CA, and wrestles for them in USAW events.  She is a teammate of Nette's on the Emmanuel College team.
