Basile's Christ leads the Louisiana contingent with a 3-1 record on the first day of the NHSCA Nationals

Basile sophomore Gavin Christ had the best Friday of the 26 Louisiana entrants at the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) National Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  A two-time Division III state champion, Christ posted a 3-1 record in a field of 90 wrestlers.  The three wins included two falls (one in 0:24) and a 10-4 decision.  He was defeated in the "Round of 16," one match shy of the quarterfinals, by J. McClaine-Green of Texas in 3:23.

Ten other Louisiana wrestlers earned at least one victory.  All of them, including the 15 who lost their first match, are still in the hunt for a top-eight finish via the consolation rounds.

Airline's Christian Walden, a three-time Division I state champion, went 2-1, as did St. Amant's Tyree Morris and Hunter Hawkins.

[Insert argument re "watching some of the best wrestlers in the nation versus playing on a cell phone" here.]
