Tigers dominate first day of Border Wars

UPDATE:  9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Final scores for the beginningof Saturday's matches have been recalculated.  Holy Cross is still in first place with 90.5 points, 27 points higher then Flagler's 63.5.  Thompson, AL, has moved to third place, a point behind Flagler.  Jesuit, with 58.5 points, is in fourth place, while St. Paul's is in eighth-placewith 43.5 points.  Rummel finishes out the Louisiana teams in 19th-place with 21 points.


Holy Cross finished the first day of the 2016 South Walton Border Wars with 106.5 points, 38 points better than second place Flagler High School of Florida.  Of the other New Orleans area schools present, Jesuit was in fifth-place with 58.5 points, St. Paul's in ninth-place with 43.5 points, and Rummel in 20th-place with 21 points.  The top three placers in each pool advance to a championship bracket on Saturday, as will a few fourth-place pool finishers to round out the 16-person brackets.

Twelve Tigers won their pools, and on the day the Tigers went 45-3 as a team.  Pool winners for Holy Cross were Caruso Signorelli (5-0 at 106 lbs.), Michael Lundin (4-0 at 113 lbs.), Jacob Spahn (3-0 at 120 lbs.), Cole Clement (3-0 at 132 lbs.), Brady Butler (4-0 at 145 lbs.), Jake Rando (4-0 at 152 lbs.), Jeffrey Argrave (3-0 at 160 lbs.), Joey Foret (3-0 at 170 lbs.), Michael Benton (3-0) at 182 lbs.) Spencer Rayes (3-0 at 195 lbs.) Cameron Drummond (2-0 at 220 lbs.) and Randy Amos (3-0 at 285 lbs.)  The Tigers who did not win their pools will also make the championship brackets on Saturday.  At 138 lbs. Robbie Butler went 3-1, and at 126 lbs. Cameron Doyle went 2-2.

Jacob Spahn of Holy Cross pinned Arnold's Griffin Hebert in 47 seconds. Jesuit's Paul Treuting defeated Chiles' Justin Lopeman 6-2

Jesuit had six pool winners.  Adam Larriviere went 4-0 at 138 lbs., Eli Larriviere went 4-0 at 145 lbs., William Rosevally went 4-0 at 160 lbs., Brandon Greer went 3-0 at 170 lbs., Paul Treuting went 3-0 at 182 lbs. and Thomas Arseneaux went 3-0 at 195 lbs.  Second-place finishers for the Blue Jays were Sam Dreuil, Jackson deGruy, Nathan Koenig and Perry Ganci.  Ben Druiel, Luke Eccles, Sal Dematteo placed third.

Three St. Paul's wrestlers, Cole Houser, Jared Thieler and Shane Ulfers won their pools, while Brandon Stein, Ben Davidson, Grant Hughes and Jake Arena placed second.  Placing third for the Wolves were Evan Ulfers and Ben Bobrowski.

Cole Houser of St. Paul's pinned Paul Thomas of Parkview in 1:40 Rummel's Chris Montalbano pinned Pace's Austin O'Gara 

Rummel's sole pool winner was Blake Mateu, who was 3-0 at 120 lbs.  Chris Montalbano placed second and Hayden Henley, Clay Minter and Dylan Hezeau placed third.

On a local note Ethan and William Pickren both won their pools.  Ethan was 4-0 at 126 lbs. and William was 3-0 at 132 lbs.

Wrestling begins on Saturday at 10 a.m.
