Four New Orleans area teams will vie at this year's Border Wars
December 2nd, 2016| Written by: Editor, Chris Pickren

Four Greater New Orleans wrestling teams are among the 24 teams slated to participate in the 4th annual South Walton High School Border Wars tournament this weekend.  Holy Cross, Jesuit, Rummel and St. Paul's will each bring state champions to vie against excellent competition from Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

On Friday, wrestlers will compete in pools to try to position themselves in the 16-man bracketed tournament to be held on Saturday.

Louisiana may bring as many as seven state champions.  Rummel will feature Division II state champion Blake Mateu, who won a championship at 106 lbs. in the 2014 event.  Holy Cross' s Division I State champions include Cole Clement, and Joey Foret.  Clement and Foret, along with Randal Amos and Jacob Spahn, were runners-up for the Tigers last year, who also placed second in the team championship.  In one of the toughest weight classes the editor has ever seen, Division I state champion Jake Rando placed fourth in 2015.

Jesuit placed third in 2015 and will bring Division I state champion Eli Larriviere, who placed sixth in last year's Border Wars.  Also representing the Blue Jays will be 2015 runner-up Nathan Koenig, Brandon Greer, who placed third, and William Rosevally, who placed sixth.

St. Paul's will bring Division I state champion Cole Houser.

Below are tables of the Louisiana schools and the pool rounds in which their wrestlers will compete on Friday:
