Three high school tournaments and one club tournament will start off the 2016-17 season this Saturday in the Baton Rouge and Greater New Orleans areas.

WARRIOR OPEN - St. Michael the Archangel

The St. Michael Warrior Open lists 24 attending teams on Trackwrestling, although a few other schools including Lafayette and St. Amant have the event listed on their schedules.

Teams scores are not usually counted in this event, but schools tend to send their starters to "test the waters," so to speak.  If that is the case, expect to see the following on the mat from the listed schools:

Airline:    Christian Walden, Tucker Almond and Matt Salinas;

Basile:     Brennan Langley, Gavin Christ, Isaac Cortez and Gavin Cortez;

Catholic: Cameron Carpenter, Lance Blanchard, Jeremy Flieg, David Fereday and James DeLee;

Central:   Austin Goudy will be seeking his third Warrior Open title, Tyler Fontenot;

Jesuit:    Adam and Eli Larriviere, Evan {Colten?) Queyrouze, Luke Eccles, Jordan Giewat, Jackson de Gruy; William Rosevalley; Brandon Greer;

North Desoto:    Chase Bates, Cody Hickman;

Ouachita Christian:    Mathew Gordy, Matthew Matherne, Matthew Webre;

Rayne:    Morgan Manuel, Cooper Simon;

St. Amant:    Tyree Morris, Brier Babin, Nakie Brown; Cameron Hyde, Sage Nugent; Cameron Borne;

RUMMEL TOURNAMENT - Rummel High School

With Brother Martin, Holy Cross and St. Paul's attending, one has to wonder if those schools will be sending their starters out this early in the season.  This event, actually, may be the first of several in which Coach Robert Dauterive tries out different wrestlers to determine who his starters will be later.  If not, though, they are pretty stacked early:  It will be interesting to see if Holy Cross enters their starters from last season.  Belle Chasse has this event scheduled for the Cardinals.  Expect to see the following have a good tournament:

Belle Chasse:    Hayden Hess, Bryson Falcon;

Brother Martin:    Daniel Varnado; Daniel Croy; Luke Cotton, Seven Shields, Patrick Evans, Paul Elmer, Justin Leal, Benjamin Wisniewski - suffice to say the Crusaders are not lacking anywhere;

Brusly:    Austin Franklin, Richard Hunter, Ethan Cascio, David Kent, Joshh Ramirez;

Holy Cross:    Michael Lundin, Jacob Spawn, Colin Clement, Cole Clement, Caruso Signorelli, Lane Broussard, Jake Rando, Joey Foret, Mason Macaluso, Vincenzo Signorelli, Jeffrey Argrave; Michael Benton;

Rummel:    Blake Mateu, Chris Montalbano, Dylan Hezeau;

St. Paul's:    Brandon Stein, Cole Houser, Jared Thieler, Shane Ulfers, Grant Hughes;

South Plaquemines:    Brandon Turner

PEAR RIVER OPEN - Pearl River High School

Not much is known about this even except that Pearl River and Fontainebleau will be participating.

BAYOU ELITE KICKOFF CLASSIC - TIGER OPEN - Holy Cross High School.

This is a Junior High and Junior Varsity event.  Teams from the Bayou Elite Club (of Holy Cross), Brusly and other Holy Cross competitors will square off here.
