Brittany Bates of Wayland Baptist College place fourth and Abby Nette of Emmanuel College placed 14th in the Blue Chip Oklahoma City University (OCU) Open this weekend in Oklahoma City. Both wrestlers competed in the 136 lbs. weight class.

Bates placed second in her pool rounds on Friday with a 4-1 record, falling only to McKendree University's Alexia Ward. On Saturday Bates defeated Darla Allen, who was undefeated on Friday, 7-2. She then lost via a technical fall (12-2 in 3:41) to the undefeated Natalia Hinojo of OCU, who ended up winning the weight class. In the match for third place Bates again lost to Ward, but this was a much better match for Bates. On Friday Ward defeated Bates by a technical fall (10-0 in 4:50). In this match Bates was ahead 3-2 for a little while, but Ward came back for an 8-3 win. Bates' record in the event was 5-3.

Nette finished third in her pool rounds (2-2 and a bye) and could only place as high as 9th in Saturday's bracket competition. However, due to an injury Nette suffered last week, it was decided she would not participate in Saturday's matches. Despite not wrestling, Nette was given a victory over Brianna Holcomb of OCU, who was also injured and did not wrestle on Saturday. Technically, Nette went 3-4 with one bye in the event, although she was 2-2 in matches she actually wrestled. It should be noted that the two wrestlers to whom Nette lost on Friday ended up placing first and second in the weight class.

Wayland Baptist College's next event is a dual meet against Oklahoma City University on November 1st, in Plainview, TX. For Emmanuel, Life University of Marietta, Georgia, will host a dual meet on November 9th.

The top five team scores after Friday's competition did not change when the event was over. McKendree University (IL) finished first, followed by OCU OK), Wayland Baptist College (TX), Menlo College (CA) and Emmanuel College.
