In a packed Acadiana High School library, senior Raven Guidry listened to testimonials from her school and club wrestling coaches prior to signing a "Letter of Intent" to enroll and wrestle at Oklahoma City University in the fall of 2017.  By signing, Raven received a $10,000 athletic scholarship, with academic ones to follow.

Initially founded in 1901 as Epworth University, and surviving name and location changes through World War I and the Great Depression, Oklahoma City University was formally established in 1942.  The university boasts an enrolment of 2,300 undergraduate students and 1,700 graduate students.

Oklahoma City University's women's wrestling team started in 2007. The STARS compete in both freestyle and folkstyle.  Raven intends to concentrate on freestyle, in which the STARS won Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association (WCWA) national championships from 2009-2012.  It is the style also used in the Olympics, where Raven hopes to compete in 2024.
