Patron, Walden and Ramirez still lurking in Virginia Beach

All three are in the consolation brackets, but all three are also All-Americans.  Jesuit's Guy Patron, Jr., Airline's Christian Walden and Rummel's Josh Ramirez are still eligible to place third at the National High School Coaches Association Nationals, held in Virginia Beach, VA, this weekend.  The last matches of the three-day event will start Sunday at 8 a.m. (Central Time Zone).

Patron made it to the semifinals of the senior division with a pin in 0:37, a 10-1 major decision, an 8-1 match and a pin in 4:39 of a New York State 220 lbs. state champion.  In the semifinals he fell to Virginia's Jay Aiello.

Walden, competing in the junior division, won his first two matches by major decisions of 10-1 and 21-10 before falling to New Jersey's Steven Glasgow, who proceeded to the finals.  In the consolation rounds Walden ran off five wins via a fall in 3:42, a 7-3 decision, a 10-3 decision, a 2-1 decision and a come-from-behind 8-6 decision.  Walden will next face Arizona's Brandon Konecny in the consolation semifinals.

In the Sophomores division Rummel's Josh Ramirez lost his first match 14-7 to Georgia's Noah Niles, who advanced to Sunday's semifinals match.  In the consolation rounds the Raider sophomore ran off a 15-0 technical fall, a 3-0 decision, a fall in 0:34 and a 10-6 decision to reach the consolation quarterfinals.
