| Patron, Jr., Fairchild and Jones place garner All-American status at Cliff Keen Nationals; Rando has good Friday |

Three New Orleans area wrestlers placed in the Top-8, earning All-American status, at the USAW/Cliff Keen Folkstyle Nationals in Cedar Falls, Iowa, this weekend. Another had a particularly good Friday, winning twice as many matches as he lost.

State runner-up Guy Patron, Jr. (wrestling for the New Orleans Wrestling Club)in the Cadet Division, at 182 lbs., reached the semifinals before losing to the eventual winner of the weight class. He split his matches on Saturday, wining his last one by a fall in 42 seconds to place fifth. Patron, Jr.'s weight class was comprised of 25 competitors.
In the Junior Division at 100 lbs. Rummel junior Robert Fairchild (wrestling for Team Louisiana) may have been in a small weight class (five competitors), but one can only compete against those who show up, and Fairchild won the first and last of his three matches to place third. He lost his second match to the eventual winner.
Also in the Junior Division, at 220 lbs., was Hahnville's Louisiana Division I state champion Kendrick Jones. Jones won his first match, lost his second (like Fairchild and Patron, Jr., Jones lost to the eventual winner) and then won four matches in succession. He lost his next two matches but placed sixth overall. Jones' weight class was comprised of 33 competitors.
Jesuit freshman Jake Rando wrestled in the Cadet Division at 126 lbs. (wrestling for the New Orleans Wrestling Club) and missed All-American status by a mere three points. Rando won his first match, lost his second, and then ran-off three straight wins before succumbing to Washington State's Nathan Feldman. Rando's weight class was comprised of 56 competitors.
